Airbourne Tex, a three-member youth band featuring drummer Lucas Rehl of Prosper, won first place in the youth division of North Texas Got Talent on September 13, 2026 — the band's first year performing together.

The group formed after Lucas's mother met the family of guitarist/vocalist Maryanne Hilton at a venue in Austin. A dinner arranged between the families revealed the teenagers' musical compatibility, and bassist Jaxton Weatherly committed to learning the instrument specifically to join them.

A Frisco teen made an unexpected switch from drums to bass when his friends needed one for their band. Jaxton Weatherly joined Airbourne Tex, which claimed first place in the youth division of North Texas Got Talent on September 13, 2026.

Weatherly had been skeptical about switching instruments, especially with the band's original country-leaning sound sitting outside his usual '70s and '80s rock taste — but he taught himself bass and grew to love the wider mix of styles. He and guitarist/vocalist Maryanne Hilton first connected four years earlier through an entertainment program, while drummer Lucas Rehl joined after a chance meeting at a Texas music venue.

The band rehearses weekly on Sundays, balancing music with school and other activities.

Thirteen-year-old Maryanne Hilton of Plano wanted an ornament from Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, but her mother set a condition: she could only buy it after performing there. Last summer, the Hilton family visited the historic dance hall, where Maryanne sang "Watermelon Moonshine" on stage with The Red Iron Push — then bought her ornament.

After the performance, drummer Lucas Rehl's mother approached the family, and the two connected. Maryanne then recruited bassist Jaxton Weatherly of Frisco to round out the trio, and Airbourne Tex was born earlier in 2026.

On September 13, the band won the youth division of North Texas Got Talent, performing at The Winston School in Dallas. The band's name spells out each member's initials and nods to their shared aviation ties — Lucas is working toward his pilot's license, and Maryanne grew up flying with her family. They play country and classic rock, carry a 25-song setlist, and plan to release an original song on Spotify.

Three young musicians from the Prosper/Frisco/Plano area are celebrating a big win after Airbourne Tex won the Junior (Youth) division of North Texas Got Talent, hosted by North Texas Performing Arts.

Airbourne Tex is a combination of talent from Septien Entertainment Group, Rockstars of Tomorrow, and School of Rock, with roots tracing back to Gruene Hall in New Braunfels.

But their story stretches beyond the stage and has a unique aviation connection. The band's drummer aspires to become a pilot, and the lead singer grew up around airplanes.

Airbourne Tex plays a high-energy mix of classic rock, country, and crowd-friendly favorites. The band can perform as a full band or a stripped-down acoustic set, depending on the venue.
